just wanting to assert my continued existence....
I'm not dead yet!

Roller derby season is finally *gasp* over. Well kind of. But not really. A couple trips away for travel bouts over the summer. And RollerCon. And MNLynx games we'll be promoting at. And parades and demo bouts at block parties. And board meetings. And sponsorship meetings. And planning for the fall for it to start all over again.

But I feel like I can breathe again :). And take stock of things in my non-derby life that had been mostly on hiatus for the better part of 9 months.

I called my 86-year old aunt in FL who've I've not talked to in far too long.

I have my nose back in books - burning through some Nancy Kresses presently - current favorite author of the moment, and diving back into Ray Kurzweil to foster my pining-for/refocusing-on the coming singularity. Actually I did pretty well keeping at least one thread of reading going at any giving point - but now hopefully I can return to multi-threaded reading, it's sad only reading one book at a time. And maybe I can meet up with Giggle Byte and discuss reading as I've been hoping to do for awhile.

I went out dancing with Lisa and Cher Noble down at First Ave Friday.

I stayed home Saturday night and drank wine with Mary who will soon no longer be my house mate.

I planted flowers on Saturday - with the kind and compassionate assistance of Kili St. Cyr and Apple Smacks.

I cleaned the house before Kili and Apple came over.

I helped Stripe Tease paint inside her new house on Sunday.

I hung out with Lisa's family for Memorial Day.

I caught up on all of this season's Battle Star Galactica, starting with season 4 episode 1.

I have hard-set plans for Thursday to finally meet up with my long lost awesome friends James and Stef whom I haven't seen since before the new year.

Glad to hear you're alive and kicking. Maybe now you'll finally read that evite I sent you weeks ago! (for this upcoming Saturday... perhaps April can give you the details at work tomorrow?)

If you have time is your newly freed up schedule (ha ha!), could you make me a list of books you enjoy. I know we've read some of the same stuff, and I am always looking for more books to devour.

I'll be looking into Nancy Kresses (Nancy Kress?), have a suggestion on where to start?

Thanks!
D

ohai my darling dawny darko!

I used to keep a running list of books-I've-read in my LJ User Info, but I've fallen off that wagon and stopped listing. What I really need/want is something to integrate into my online word - ideally thru google gadgets or some such that lets me easily track books I've read and books wanting to read. I'm sure there is such an animal and I just haven't the wherewithall to dig it up. I should ask my friend the BookGoddess when we meet up Thursday.

I'd say for Nancy Kress, start with Beggars in Spain. It's the first in a threesome - and very good. Not over tech heavy in that it won't drown you in technobabble but enough to be good and chewy, and just great exploration of social issues in a future that looks at the foregone conclusions of genetic modification of humanity. Maximum Light is a standalone that I'm in the middle of right now too, and she's got some more humans-in-space novels too that are in my queue.

Thanks, I'll take a look at your neglectecd JL book list.

I enjoyed my first venture into "Cyber punk" a few years ago with Snow Crash, but haven't read much of anything else (tried Cryptonomicon right after Hunter was born, but was too sleep deprived to get very far), so Beggars in Spain sounds like a good next step (and I love the idea of needing no sleep at all. I try it sometimes, but it never works very well).

Facebook has a thingy called BookShelf to keep track of your read and want to read books.. but then you have to use facebook.. oh the horror.

Tin Lizzy!

I graduated, and I'm moving back to Minneapolis in less than three weeks. I will be back in Minneapolis just in time to turn 30! I can't wait to see you!

Tin Lizzytin_lizzy on May 29th, 2008 06:34 pm (UTC)
nope - furthest will be bout in cincinnati next weekend and vegas for rollercon. would love to hit the PN, but tough getting outside the midwest given we all have to foot our own travel bills. someday...
